This partnership prototype is the first of its kind in a community college. Developed partnership of this type can aid in the attainment of programmatic and curricular goals. The proposal will detail in particular a partnership developed between Hillsborough Community College and 100 Black Men of Tampa Bay Inc., which brought into being an innovative mentoring program at the College known as the “Collegiate 100 or C-100.”

A decade ago, partnerships surfaced on the higher education radar as a new strategic tool for attaining objectives in an era of change, increase accountability and budgetary constraints. Some professionals have questioned whether partnership is the latest institutional fad or nowadays reality. Should community colleges jump on this bandwagon? What purposes does a partnership serve? Who benefits and why? Should a community college strengthen existing partnerships by making them a budgetary priority? This proposal aims to shine the light on partnerships pros and cons to help increase our understanding of this concept, its varying format, challenges, opportunities, strengths and sustainability.

Through the lens of the partnership model, the college will assess and evaluate the overall efficacy of this partnership as it relates to attainment and or contribution to institutional mission and goals for increase service and student learning of the targeted population.
